“Beauty and the Beast” also gave her her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The song became her first Top Ten hit in the UK and her second Top Ten hit in the US after “Where Does My Heart Beat Now” released in the same year.
BEAUTY AND A BEAT CELINE DION MOVIE
Her international breakthrough came in 1991 when she sang with Peabo Bryson on the title track of Disney’s animated hit movie Beauty and the Beast. Dion joined the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo, taking home the awards for Top Performer and the gold medal for Best Song with “ Tellement j’ai d’amour pour toi.”
Angelil, mortgaged his home to produce the record as he was determined to make the young Canadian singer a star. Dion first made a name for herself in 1981 - at the age of 13 - after releasing her first studio album, La Voix du bon Dieu. Dion’s tour will kick on June 26 in Tokyo and will bring her to cities “she hasn’t performed in for 10 years” including Tokyo and Macau, said a press release. Dion was originally supposed to perform in Manila in 2014 but had to cancel due to the deteriorating health of her husband and manager, Rene Angelil. Her show on July 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena is part of the Celine Dion Live 2018 tour which will take her to seven cities across the region including Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei, and Bangkok.
